The Writing & Publishing Department is comprised of a dynamic group of students from across the western PA region. With approximately 50 students at the high school level, our department functions as a close-knit community. Thanks to our small class sizes, broad curricular offerings, and innovative publishing entities, each of our students will find a wealth of opportunities through which to discover their voices and passions.

In addition to taking writing courses, students in the Writing & Publishing Department have the opportunity to take a variety of literary and interdisciplinary courses, apply to be on the staff of one of our publishing entities, and participate in a variety of readings and events throughout the course of each school year.

Like all departments at Lincoln Park, the Writing & Publishing department follows a block schedule. Classes are 90 minutes long, and, after their first year in the high school program, most students take two Writing & Publishing blocks per day. Class offerings alternate throughout the week (classes run MWF or TR) and change at the semester, so it’s normal for a student to take four different Writing & Publishing courses per semester, or eight different courses per school year.

In addition to all this, Writing & Publishing students are encouraged to submit their work widely for publication. Recent student work can be found in a variety of journals, including: The Claremont Review, Garfield Lake Review, The Roadrunner Review, Brilliant Flash Fiction, Volney Road Review, Elan Literary Magazine, Balloons Literary Journal, Jokes Literary Review, Sheepshead Review, Levitate Magazine, Landlocked Magazine, Variant Literature, Dime Show Review, The Scriblerus, Know It All Mag, Hunnybee Lit, The Lindenwood Review, Blue Marble Review, The Mystic Blue Review, and Hot Dish Magazine.
